The Goa state commission has recommended strengthening the state`s cancer registry for the protection of children′s rights. According to the commission, this is a crucial move for cancer surveillance, forecasting trends, and planning preventive measures that will lessen the burden of the disease.
On Sunday, Dr. Peter Borges, the chairperson of an event organised to commemorate International Childhood Cancer Day, stated that cancer prevention should be considered an intrinsic aspect of health interventions and should be swiftly expanded to primary healthcare. He added that children with cancer face unimaginable challenges.
He further highlighted the need to bridge cancer gaps with psychosocial and social protection. He concluded his speech by pointing out that "access to the best possible treatment, care, and support is their human right, not just a privilege."
